SUR representatives have inspected a South Korean company-owned bulk carrier at the port of Vostochny

Today, the representatives of the Far Eastern Territorial Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia (FETO SUR) have visited the bulk carrier Alice (flag of Panama), which was loading coal at the port of Vostochny.

The shipowner and the operator is the South Korean company STX Marine Service Co Ltd. The crew consists mainly of Indonesian seafarers, the captain and the chief engineer are from South Korea.

The vessel has a collective agreement on board. An AB Seaman salary is $1,549, and a captain's salary is $7,514.

According to Nikolay Sukhanov, SUR FETO Chairman , the terms of the collective agreement signed between the FKSU (Federation of Korean Seafarers' Unions) and the Korean shipowner fully comply with international requirements for vessels flying flags of convenience, as well as the Maritime Labor Convention.

“The seafarers know that in case of death, their relatives will receive compensation in the amount of $109,600 and, in addition, they are all familiar with the content of the collective agreement and are aware of their rights on board a FOC vessel,” - Nikolay Sukhanov added.

The SUR representatives answered questions from the crew and handed them the magazine “Maritime Unions Herald” and books in English on the rights of seafarers.
