Major companies do not use Gmail or Yahoo addresses for recruiting

The International Transport Workers' Federation warns: the website www.itfshipbesure.org has been updated with new reports of fraudulent schemes in commercial fleet.

Thus, the e-mail address jobs.scorpiotankers21@gmail.com was used to recruit seafarers to the actual company Scorpio Tankers. As soon as a candidate accepted a job offer, they asked him to pay for the foreign workers' health insurance certificate through a fake organization called the International Workers Assurance Company, which false website www.internationalworkersassurance.com was an absolute copy of a legitimate company website. In their emails, scammers indicate the real website of Scorpio Tankers and also use the names of people working in the company, for example, cameron-makey@scorpio-tankers.com.

Other scammers offer non-existent jobs at the Honatek Oil and Gas Exploration Bureau using the fake website www.honatek.com.

The Seafarers' Union of Russia warns that the number of fraudulent schemes, one way or another related to employment, is not decreasing. In the hope of making money from lies, people pretend to be agents or recruiters, use the most sophisticated methods to make their job offers look real. The ITF is known to receive hundreds of reports from seafarers who have been scammed. The SUR urges seafarers to be wary of any recruitment information and verify it.
