Cadets of Kaliningrad Marine Fishing College learned about the activity of SUR
The start of the first academic year for cadets of the Department of Marine Conventional Training of the Kaliningrad Marine Fishing College (KMFC) was intensive.
In addition to studies, they had an interesting meeting with representatives of the Kaliningrad Regional Organization of the Seafarers' Union of Russia (KRO SUR), who told them about the activities of the union, its key role in protecting the rights of seafarers, ensuring decent wages and safe working conditions, and addressing disputed situations.
— The dialogue with the cadets was lively and meaningful. They asked questions about insurance and legal assistance, advanced training, and career growth. Besides, the cadets shared their own observations, since most of them have parents who work at sea and they know about the profession firsthand, — the Chair of the KRO SUR Lyudmila Izmalkova noted.
But the acquaintance will not be limited to business talks. Very soon, the Union will hold a traditional bowling tournament among cadets.
— We hold this tournament annually. After the official games, there will be an opportunity for networking, — the KRO SUR Chair explained . — This is an excellent opportunity for cadets to communicate in an informal setting not only with each other but also with representatives of crewing companies, as well as the port administration. According to her, such events help future seafarers overcome the barrier and encourage them to build professional relationships while still studying.
Lyudmila Izmalkova noted that many guys, realizing the importance of membership in the union, expressed a desire to join the SUR.
We will add that the communication between the union and the cadets is set to be continued. The KRO SUR plans to hold new meetings with first-year students of other maritime specialties: navigators and electrical engineers.
