A seafarer from Krasnodar Region won international maritime photo contest

Aleksey Oblaukhov from Anapa, the captain of the tanker Mesta, learned about his victory during the voyage right on board the vessel. “Of course, I brightened up, it was very unexpected,” - Aleksey confesses. “After all, I sent several pictures from my personal email, I wasn’t even sure that they were delivered. A month has passed - and such good news came to the vessel's mail right in the morning”.

In February, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) announced a photo contest devoted to the diversity of the world through a corporate newsletter. Both seafarers and shore-based staff were invited to participate in the contest. Aleksey remembered about a set of amazing landscape shots and decided to try his luck. “I can’t say that I am fond of photography,” he admits. “But the pictures of sunsets and sunrises taken in the Gulf of Mexico, reflecting  incredible beauty and power of nature, are truly unique. And the jury has considered  one of them to be the best".

Aleksey has been on the captain's bridge for 9 years. “No matter what anyone says, a romance of the sea still remains” - he notes. “I like to navigate a vessel. I like its slow dynamics, inertia, movement, I like being in the ocean hundreds of miles from the coast. Also I acknowledge other clear advantages of work at sea such as high salaries and long vacations".

The prize money was awarded to the winner in the Novorossiysk branch of BSM. The seafarer has already spent the winnings to buy a TV - he made a purchase he had been putting off for a long time.
