“Such work becomes more attractive for our seafarers”

A collective agreement  is  the  best guarantee for seafarers'  safe recruitment  and their social protection. There is St.Petersburg-based  Pola Rise among  the good shipping  companies. Its fleet consists  of  six river-sea type vessels and  one  tug. Today the SUR BTO's collective agreement covers all ships  owned to Pola Rise.

As a comparison, there were only two  such vessels n last year. M/V Pola Augusta (built 2008)  was a pioneer in this way. Pola Augusta used to operate  under  foreign flag, but soon the  vessel changed a flag into Russian (port  of registry St. Petersburg). Also  the  shipowner relied  on the  Russian flag and cooperation  with the  national shipyards where M/V Pola Sofia and M/V Pola Feodosia were built.

According to collective agreement, the wage rates for crews on all six vessels  go beyond  the  minimum rate  set down by the  ILO Joint Maritime Commission.

“Our goal  is to ensure  compliance  with  legal rights   of crews  on Russian-flagged  ships, including their  right  to decent salary in according with the  world labour standards. The  union  seeks for this  through concluding with shipping  companies the collective agreements. The  agreement provides conditions for  avoiding  a shadow labour  relations and  excludes a possibility of using  illegal salary schemes and many others. Such work becomes  more  attractive for our seafarers”, the SUR points out.

By the way, Pola Rise fleet, generally, is involved  in Mediterranean routes. At average,  the crew consists of 10-12 seafarers. For  employment on Pola Rise fleet questions, you can call at: 449-17-91 (Saint Petersburg).
