“Such work becomes more attractive for our seafarers”
A collective agreementisthebest guarantee for seafarers'safe recruitmentand their social protection. There is
St.Petersburg-basedPola Rise amongthe good shippingcompanies. Its fleet consistsofsix
river-sea type vessels andonetug. Today the SUR BTO's collective agreement
covers all shipsowned to Pola Rise.
As a comparison, there were only twosuch vessels n last year. M/V Pola Augusta
(built 2008)was a pioneer in this way.
Pola Augusta used to operateunderforeign flag, but soon thevessel changed a flag into Russian (port of registry St. Petersburg). Alsotheshipowner reliedon theRussian flag and cooperationwith thenational shipyards where M/V Pola Sofia and M/V Pola Feodosia were
built.
According to collective agreement, the wage rates for crews
on all six vesselsgo beyondtheminimum rateset down by theILO Joint Maritime Commission.
“Our goalis to
ensurecompliancewithlegal rightsof crewson Russian-flaggedships, including theirrightto decent salary in according with theworld labour standards. Theunionseeks for thisthrough concluding with shippingcompanies the collective agreements. Theagreement provides conditions foravoidinga shadow labourrelations andexcludes a possibility of usingillegal salary schemes and many others. Such
work becomesmoreattractive for our seafarers”, the SUR points
out.
By the way, Pola Rise fleet, generally, is involvedin Mediterranean routes. At average,the crew consists of 10-12 seafarers.
