Gennady Nevelskoy Received a Simulator as a Gift From the Union

The welcoming ceremony of the ice-breaking supply ship Gennady Nevelskoy (flag of Russia, IMO 9742120) was held in Vladivostok on Sunday, April 16. The crew was greeted by the First Deputy General Director of Sovcomflot (SCF) PJSC Evgeny Ambrosov, Rector of Maritime State University named after Admiral Gennady Nevelskoy Sergei Ogai, as well as the Chairman of the SUR Primary Organization, Pacific Trade Union Organization of Seafarers (SUR PTUOS), Valery Berezinsky.

The ceremony began with the raising of the flag of the Russian Federation. Participants of the meeting could not help remembering the man whose name was given to the ship, Gennady Ivanovich Nevelskoy. He was an outstanding pioneer, a member of the Russian Geographic Society, an admiral who did much for the development of the Far East. Alexander Kukel-Krayevsky, Admiral Gennady Nevelskoy's great-grandson, who was present at the ceremony as a guest was especially pleased to hear warm words addressed to his ancestor. To commemorate the glorified admiral, the vessels in Zolotoi Rog bay gave a salute with a long hooter. The solemnity of the ceremony was also highlighted by the cannon volley from Korabelnaya Embankment.

The crew, almost entirely consisting of the Far Eastern seafarers, gladly accepted the first gifts.

"It's not customary to come to the birthday party empty-handed, so the SUR Pacific Trade Union Organization of Seafarers presented the crew with a professional treadmill, and to make the training more comfortable there is also a set of T-shirts with the SUR anniversary symbols for every sailor," – Valery Berezinsky said.

Such a gift became a logical step in the practice of replenishing the sports cabins carried out by the Union. The SUR and Sovcomflot have been working together for many years within the framework of the social partnership for the sake of maintaining the health of the crew. To prove this, let it be reminded that the seafarers can rest in health camps together with their children, attend gyms and swimming pools.

The union donated not only a simulator, but also replenished the ship's library with a two-volume book, Heroic Deeds of Russian Naval Officers in the Extreme East of Russia, 1849-55. Posthumous Notes of Admiral Gennady Nevelskoy.

During the call of the vessel, SCF and the Maritime State University named after Admiral Gennady Nevelskoy signed an agreement according to which the innovative project, Floating Laboratory, will be launched on board of Gennady Nevelskoy. Its goal is to train personnel and carry out scientific research aimed at development of the Far East and the Eastern sector of the Arctic. The project which designed for a five-year period implies carrying out scientific research on the basis of the vessel, as well as some practical training of cadets, the implementation of scientific and educational programs for graduate students, young scientists and internships for scientific and pedagogical staff of the University.
